Internet Safety Day 2022 - Parent Resources

While children are using the internet at school we can sure that they are safe as the content they can access is filtered and monitored to ensure it is appropriate. At school they can communicate with the majority of their friends in person so they do not need to message one another using a device and collaborative video gaming is an activity for home.

We appreciate that away from school children often have an online life which is important to them. They may play collaborative online games like Minecraft or Fortnight and they may also have chat groups on forums such as WhatsApp. Some older children may also have a social media presence on TikTok or Instagram and most children enjoy watching videos on YouTube and YouTube kids. We also know how easy it is for children to enjoy an online experience using any number of personal devices such as games consoles, a tablets, computers and phones.

The Framework Federation does not wish to stop children accessing these online activities but we do feel that it is important they know how to do so safely and responsibly. This can be hard to monitor at home and is not always something that children want to discuss away from school.

The Safer Internet Day team have put together a number of resources for you to share with your family over a range of ages. The resources include conversations you can have with your children about how they use the internet and how they make sure they are safe. There is a family action plan where families can decide what they will do to become more aware about online safety. There is also a list of places to go to find answers for any questions you may have, or where to go to report inappropriate behaviour or content.
